Dear Mr. Prime Minister, and all that may concern,
You won’t read this. I know that. I’ve sent you 35 letters already and gotten two replies, both from your employees. Besides, you have a scandal on your hands. Conflict of interest with the WE charity. So you and your colleagues are debating your own personal finances and friendships during a pandemic that’s put so many Canadians out of work. In the midst of protests for Black lives. While our climate continues to degrade putting the future of the planet at risk.
While you are busy trying to keep your reputation in good health, polar bears are dying and scientist predict they will be gone by 2100. While you defend your rich friends, people in the Global South are suffering from a crisis they didn’t cause. While you argue with your colleagues the clock continues to tick on our planet.
I’m utterly disappointed in my government. Every day, I face the fact that my future will be far less safe than the present and you are doing nothing about it because you are too busy dealing with petty politics. Sure, this scandal is very important. We need to have an ethical government. But it’s small potato’s when the house in on fire. Get your act together. I’m 14 years old and I have lost faith in my governments ability to protect me and my future. I feel selfish say ‘my future’ so often in the letters I send you, but it’s our future, and the lived reality of so many people in the Global South. You are failing to protect the lives of the children of a country you supposedly govern and letting the situation in other poorer countries deteriorate because of the action of us in the rich countries. Instead you give favors to your friends and then spend all your time defending yourself and your friends from criticism.
So disappointing.
