Dear Mr. Prime Minister, and all those it may concern,
You really did just want to hear from me again didn’t you? I’d written you a letter a week for a whole year and was going to take a break when you announced the new carbon tax. You may recall in my last letter I stressed the importance of meeting the Paris targets, and what do you do right after I publish that letter? Announce a spike in the carbon tax that will allow us to meet our targets. So thank you. After 53 letters I actually have something to say thank you for.
We still have a lot of work to do and so, so many of the things I’ve written about are still issues. Don’t think making one right move erases the broken promises nor does it mean that the systems that fundamentally caused climate change don’t still need to be destroyed. We still need to do so much work to fix the damage already done. You still need to support provinces and individuals in making things greener. You still have to put pressure on other nations. You still have to honour Indigenous treaties. You still have to stop building pipelines. You cannot stop here, but Canada is now poking its head above the bar of acceptability and that is amazing, considering. So, one thumbs up from me. Thank you for finally doing something meaningful.
I hope you have a wonderful day,
Amelia Penney-Crocker
Well thank you so much Amelia. I am so impressed. Definitely a brilliant campaign which is now going mainstream. I was initially motivated by Greta Thunberg to do something as a retired person. So every Friday I go and meditate on the steps of the legislature in BC around lunchtime. I feel better and so far we seemed to have stopped the cruise ships and the airlines. 🙂
Keep up the good work. The critical mass has been reached.
Thank you again
Kind regards
Martin
